Booking & Payment

How to reserve your Morocco desert tour and what payment options we accept.

How do I book a Merzouga tour with Camel Trek Tours Morocco? +
You can book directly through our website contact form, by email, or instantly via WhatsApp. Once we confirm availability for your dates, we send a booking confirmation and payment instructions within a few hours. As a registered travel agency in Morocco, every booking is fully documented.
What deposit is required to secure my booking? +
We require a 30% deposit to confirm your Sahara desert tour reservation. The remaining balance can be paid on arrival in cash (Euros, US Dollars, or Moroccan Dirhams) or via bank transfer before departure.
Which payment methods do you accept? +
We accept bank transfer (IBAN), PayPal, Wise, and cash on arrival. Card payments can be arranged upon request. All transactions are transparent with no hidden fees — what you see is what you pay.
Can I book a private tour instead of a shared group tour? +
Absolutely. We offer both private tours (exclusive vehicle and guide for your group) and shared tours (join other travellers for a sociable, budget-friendly experience). Private tours are available for any group size from 1 to 15+ people and can be fully customised.
How far in advance should I book my Morocco desert tour? +
We recommend booking at least 1–2 weeks in advance, especially during peak seasons (October–April). During school holidays and festivals we can fill up quickly. That said, last-minute bookings are sometimes possible — message us on WhatsApp to check availability.
Do you offer custom itineraries? +
Yes. Our team can build a fully tailored Morocco desert tour around your schedule, interests, and budget. From a 1-night Merzouga experience to a 10-day cross-country adventure, we design it with you.

Tour Details

Routes, durations, and what’s included in your Sahara desert experience.

What does a typical Marrakech to Merzouga tour include? +
Our Marrakech to Merzouga tour (typically 3 days / 2 nights) covers the High Atlas Mountains, the Dadès Gorges, Draa Valley, and the Erg Chebbi dunes. It includes private 4×4 or minibus transport, an English-speaking guide, camel trek at sunset, overnight in a Sahara desert camp, and breakfast. Meals and entrance fees are listed clearly in your itinerary.
What does the Fes to Merzouga route cover? +
The Fes to Merzouga route (2–3 days) passes through the Middle Atlas cedar forests, the Ziz Valley palm grove, Erfoud fossil quarries, and arrives at the golden dunes of Merzouga. It’s one of Morocco’s most scenic drives and ideal for those starting or ending their trip in Fes.
How long is the camel trek in Merzouga? +
The standard camel trek in Merzouga (Erg Chebbi) lasts approximately 1 to 1.5 hours each way, riding to your desert camp at sunset and returning the next morning at sunrise. Longer multi-day camel treks into the deep Sahara are available on request.
Is the tour suitable for children and elderly travellers? +
Yes. Our Morocco desert tours are designed to be accessible. Children love the camel trek and stargazing. For elderly guests or those with mobility concerns, we can substitute the camel ride with a 4×4 drop-off close to the camp. Please inform us at booking so we can adapt accordingly.
What’s the difference between a 1-night and a 2-night desert stay? +
A 1-night stay gives you the essential Sahara experience: sunset camel trek, camp dinner, music, stargazing, and sunrise. A 2-night stay allows more exploration — visiting nomad families, sandboarding, quad biking, and exploring remote dunes. We recommend 2 nights if your schedule allows.
Do you offer tours to other Moroccan destinations? +
Yes. Alongside Merzouga, we organise tours to Chefchaouen, Essaouira, Ait Benhaddou, Ouarzazate, Todra Gorge, and more. We can also combine a Sahara tour with a full Morocco itinerary. Ask us about our multi-destination packages.

Pickup, Drop-off & Transport

Logistics, pick-up points, and how we get you to the Sahara comfortably.

Where will you pick me up in Marrakech or Fes? +
We offer hotel or riad pick-up directly from your accommodation in Marrakech, Fes, Casablanca, or other Moroccan cities. Simply share your address when booking and we will confirm your pick-up time (usually early morning, 7:00–8:00 AM).
What type of vehicle is used? +
Depending on group size and tour type, we use air-conditioned minibuses, 4×4 Land Cruisers, or luxury SUVs. All vehicles are well-maintained, regularly serviced, and driven by licensed, experienced Moroccan drivers.
Can you drop me off in a different city at the end of the tour? +
Yes. We offer flexible one-way tours. For example, you can start in Marrakech and end in Fes, or vice versa. This is very popular and included in many of our standard itineraries at no extra cost for group tours, or with a small supplement for private transfers.
Is airport transfer included? +
Airport transfers are available as an add-on service from Marrakech Menara, Casablanca Mohammed V, Fes–Saïs, and other airports. Please request this when booking and we will provide a fixed price with no surprises.
Are stops included along the route? +
Absolutely. On the Marrakech to Merzouga route, stops typically include Ait Benhaddou Kasbah (UNESCO site), Ouarzazate, the Rose Valley, Dadès Gorges, and Todra Gorge. Your guide will explain each site and allow time for photos and exploration.

Accommodation

Standard and luxury desert camp options, and what to expect overnight in the Sahara.

What is the difference between standard and luxury desert camps? +
Standard camps feature comfortable Berber tents with basic bedding, shared bathrooms, and traditional dinners — perfect for travellers seeking an authentic, affordable experience. Luxury desert camps offer spacious en-suite tents with private bathrooms, plush furnishings, premium linens, gourmet Moroccan cuisine, and often a private terrace with Sahara views.
Do the luxury tents have electricity and hot showers? +
Yes. Our luxury desert camps provide solar-powered electricity, USB charging points, hot showers, and flushing toilets. It’s a genuine luxury experience in the heart of the Sahara — without sacrificing comfort.
What meals are included at the desert camp? +
All camps include a traditional Moroccan dinner (tagine, couscous, salads, mint tea, and dessert) and breakfast the next morning. Vegetarian and dietary needs are accommodated — please inform us at booking.
Will there be other travellers at the camp? +
For shared tours, camps may host other international travellers, which creates a wonderfully social atmosphere. On private tours, you can request exclusive use of a camp (subject to availability and an additional fee), giving you the dunes entirely to yourselves.
Is accommodation included for stops along the route? +
On multi-day tours, overnight stops en route (e.g., in Ouarzazate or Dadès) include 3-star guesthouses or riads with breakfast. Upgrades to 4-star hotels are available at a supplement. All accommodation is vetted by our team for quality and safety.

What to Pack & Weather

Seasonal conditions in the Sahara and what to bring for a comfortable trip.

What is the best time of year to visit Merzouga and the Sahara? +
The best seasons for a Sahara desert visit are October to April, when temperatures are pleasant (15–28°C during the day). Summer (June–August) can be extremely hot (40°C+) but remains popular with travellers who seek that intense desert heat. Winter nights (December–February) can be cold — below 5°C — so pack warm layers.
What should I pack for a Morocco desert tour? +
We recommend: light, loose clothing for daytime, warm layers for cool nights, a scarf or shemagh (for wind and sand), sunscreen and sunglasses, sturdy closed-toe shoes or sandals, a small daypack, and a power bank. Avoid bringing valuables you don’t need.
Will I get sand in everything? +
Some sand is inevitable and part of the Sahara experience! We recommend keeping electronics in zip-lock bags and using a scarf to cover your face during windy conditions. Luggage storage is available at camps so you only bring essentials into the dunes.
Is the camel trek uncomfortable? +
Most guests find the camel trek comfortable for the 1–1.5 hour duration. Saddles are padded and guides lead the camels at a gentle pace. Those with back issues or who prefer not to ride can be transported by 4×4 to the camp entrance instead.
Is there phone signal at the desert camp? +
Signal varies by camp location. Many camps near Merzouga have partial 4G coverage, but signal can be weak deep in the dunes. We recommend disconnecting and enjoying the Sahara sky — the stargazing is extraordinary. Emergency contact with our team is always possible.

Safety, Guides & Language

Our commitment to your safety and the expertise of our local Moroccan team.

Is Morocco safe for tourists? +
Morocco is a safe and welcoming country for international tourists. The Merzouga and Sahara region is particularly safe. Camel Trek Tours Morocco operates as a registered travel agency in Morocco, and all our guides and drivers are vetted, licensed, and trained in first aid and tourism regulations.
Do your guides speak English? +
Yes. All our guides are fluent English speakers and many also speak French, Spanish, German, and Arabic. Our local Berber guides speak Tamazight and have deep knowledge of the Sahara, Moroccan history, and desert culture.
Are the guides certified and licensed? +
Absolutely. All guides employed by Camel Trek Tours Morocco hold official Moroccan government tourist guide licences. As a registered agency, we are legally required to use certified guides — your safety and experience are always our top priority.
What happens in a medical emergency in the desert? +
Our guides carry first aid kits and have emergency protocols in place. Merzouga town is accessible within 30–60 minutes from most camp locations, and medical clinics are available. We strongly recommend travellers purchase comprehensive travel insurance before their trip.
Is it safe to travel solo or as a solo female traveller? +
Many of our guests are solo travellers, including solo women. Morocco is generally safe and our team provides attentive, professional support throughout your journey. We can arrange shared tours so solo travellers meet others, or private tours for those who prefer it. Always follow standard travel safety practices.

Our fair and transparent policies for changes and cancellations.

What is your cancellation policy? +
Cancellations made more than 14 days before departure receive a full refund of your deposit. Cancellations 7–14 days before receive a 50% refund. Cancellations less than 7 days before departure are non-refundable, but we will do our best to rebook you on alternative dates.
Can I change my tour dates after booking? +
Yes. Date changes are free of charge if requested more than 7 days before your tour, subject to availability. Changes within 7 days may incur a small administrative fee. Contact us as early as possible and we will do everything we can to accommodate you.
What if Camel Trek Tours Morocco needs to cancel or change my tour? +
In the rare event we must cancel due to extreme weather, safety concerns, or force majeure, we offer a full refund or free rescheduling — your choice. We communicate immediately and transparently, as we value long-term trust over short-term gain.
How are refunds processed? +
Refunds are processed via the same method used for the original payment (bank transfer, PayPal, or Wise) within 3–7 business days. We send a written confirmation once the refund has been initiated.
Do you recommend travel insurance? +
Yes, we strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance that covers trip cancellation, medical emergencies, and baggage. This protects you regardless of the reason for any unexpected changes to your Morocco desert tour.
