Your tour begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel, riad, airport, or train station in Fes. Leave the city behind and head south through the beautiful landscapes of the Middle Atlas Mountains, where forests, hills, and traditional towns create a refreshing first stage of the journey.

Your first stop is Ifrane, often called the Switzerland of Morocco because of its alpine-style architecture, neat streets, and cool climate. Continue to Azrou, a Berber town known for its cedar wood craftsmanship and nearby cedar forest, where Barbary macaque monkeys can often be seen in their natural environment.

Cross the mountain roads and pass through the Zad Pass before arriving in Midelt, where you can enjoy lunch and a short break. In the afternoon, continue via Errachidia and admire the impressive landscapes of the Ziz Valley, a vast oasis lined with thousands of palm trees, traditional villages, and dramatic desert scenery.

As you travel farther south, pass through Erfoud, famous for its fossils and dates, before reaching Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara. On this first evening, check in to your hotel near the dunes, enjoy dinner, and spend the night in Merzouga while preparing for a deeper desert experience the next day.

After breakfast, enjoy a full day dedicated to exploring the fascinating region around Merzouga and the dunes of Erg Chebbi. This part of the tour offers a richer desert experience, allowing you to discover the local culture and landscapes beyond the standard sunset camel ride.

Travel around the dunes and pass through small Berber villages, where desert life continues in a simple and traditional rhythm. One of the most memorable stops is Khamlia village, known for its spiritual Gnaoua music, brought to the area through ancient caravan and cultural exchanges. Here, you can enjoy live local music and discover a unique part of the Sahara’s cultural identity.

Continue deeper into the desert region to visit nomadic families living in tents, where you can experience a glimpse of traditional desert life and hospitality. The surrounding scenery is striking, with black volcanic rocks, wide plains, palm trees, white salt beds, and the golden dunes rising in the distance.

Later in the day, begin your camel trek across Erg Chebbi, one of the most iconic dune landscapes in Morocco. As the sun begins to set, the desert takes on beautiful tones of gold, orange, and red. Arrive at your Berber desert camp, where dinner will be served in a magical Sahara atmosphere. In the evening, enjoy the traditional experience of music and drumming around the camp before spending the night under the stars.

Wake up early to witness the unforgettable sunrise over the dunes of Erg Chebbi, one of the most beautiful moments in the Sahara. After breakfast at the camp, return from the dunes and begin the road back to Fes.

Drive through Rissani, a historic town known for its authentic traditional souk and its important role in the Tafilalet region. If timing allows, stop to explore the local market, often considered one of the most traditional in southern Morocco.

Continue to Erfoud, where you may visit a local fossil workshop and discover the region’s well-known fossilized marble production. From there, follow the road back through the Ziz Valley, enjoying more views of palm groves and desert landscapes before climbing again into the Middle Atlas.
