Your desert journey begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel, riad, airport, or railway station in Fes. Leaving the imperial city behind, you will travel south through the beautiful landscapes of the Middle Atlas Mountains, one of the most scenic regions in Morocco.

Your first stop is Ifrane, a peaceful town often called the Switzerland of Morocco thanks to its European-style architecture, clean atmosphere, and cool mountain climate. This elegant destination offers a surprising and refreshing contrast to the desert landscapes waiting ahead.

Continue to Azrou, a Berber town surrounded by cedar forests. Here, you may stop in the forest to see the famous Barbary macaque monkeys, one of the most loved natural attractions on the route from Fes to Merzouga. The journey then continues through mountain roads and panoramic landscapes toward Midelt, where there is time for lunch and relaxation.

In the afternoon, drive through Errachidia and enjoy one of the most impressive desert gateway landscapes in Morocco: the lush Ziz Valley, filled with thousands of palm trees, traditional ksars, and green oasis scenery stretching across the valley floor. This is one of the most photogenic parts of the trip.

As you approach the Sahara region, pass through Erfoud, well known for its fossils and date production, before arriving in Merzouga at the edge of the majestic dunes of Erg Chebbi. Here, you will leave the vehicle and begin your camel trek into the Sahara Desert. As you ride across the dunes, enjoy the warm colors of the sunset and the peaceful atmosphere of the desert.

Arrive at your desert camp, where a traditional dinner will be served. Spend the night in the heart of the Sahara, surrounded by dunes and silence, in one of Morocco’s most unforgettable settings.

Wake up early to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the dunes of Erg Chebbi. The changing light, soft sand tones, and deep desert silence create one of the most magical moments of the tour.

After breakfast at the camp, return from the desert and begin the journey back to Fes. Travel through Rissani, a historic town known for its traditional souk and its importance as one of the oldest trade centers in southern Morocco. If time allows, enjoy a short stop to discover its authentic local atmosphere.

Continue to Erfoud, where you may visit a local fossil workshop and learn about the region’s famous fossilized marble craftsmanship. From here, drive back through the Tafilalet oasis region and the beautiful Ziz Valley, enjoying more panoramic views along the way.

In the afternoon, continue through the Middle Atlas, passing once again through Azrou and Ifrane before arriving in Fes in the evening. Drop-off will be at your accommodation or preferred location, marking the end of your 2-day Sahara desert tour from Fes.
